Mentor Coaches

Mentor coaches are typically experienced mentors who have completed a semester of Campus Connections or graduate students from related fields. Mentor coaches may earn academic credit or volunteer their time.

Mentor coaches attend lab sessions from 3:00pm-9:00pm one night a week with mentors and youth. Mentor coaches facilitate small group discussions during pre-lab session, check in youth when they arrive, lead activities, encourage pro-social interactions, help mentors strategize and troubleshoot, assist with meals, and just have fun with both the students and youth. Each mentor coach is usually assigned to “supervise” a mentor family. They review their mentors' weekly journals and advise them in strategies for working with their mentee. Campus Connections is a great experience for anyone who is seeking to bolster their professional helping skills, learn more about adolescents and mentoring, or the juvenile justice system.
